The Proviso West High School Concert Choir will join schools from across the state of Illinois as they participate in VanderCook College of Music’s Choral Festival.
Choral Fest evaluators provide constructive and practical suggestions to help each ensemble improve its performance. After the performance, each ensemble works with a clinician for 30 minutes on the performance music.
“This is another opportunity for students to demonstrate the musical skills and techniques they’ve learned in class,” said Proviso West choir sponsor Salina Watson. “At VanderCook our students will be evaluated from a college perspective. The event can also help prepare them as they apply for music scholarships.”
Choral Fest will be held at VanderCook College of Music on Friday, March 19th. Proviso West’s Choir will sing various musical selections for festival judges. This event is one of the many musical outreach programs sponsored by VanderCook each year.
“At VanderCook College of music we have several outreach events throughout the year designed to offer students a great learning experience and to help them improve in music and musical arts,” said Pete Frasso, who helps coordinate Choral Fest. “The event will allow students to be counseled and critiqued. They will have an opportunity to meet and fellowship with other music students, and showcase their talents.”
VanderCook College of Music specializes in curriculum that prepares college undergraduates and graduate students for college degrees in the music educational field. Both Mrs. Watson of Proviso West and Mr. Reginald Wright of Proviso East received their Master Degrees from VanderCook.
Best Wishes to Mrs. Watson and the choral music students of Proviso West!
