Hines Veterans Hospital recently donated over $15,000 in scientific and office equipment to Proviso West High School’s Science Department.
“All of this science equipment will be a great addition to our classrooms,” said Proviso West Science Department Chairman Darryl McDonald. “Some of these items cost thousands of dollars. In a time where it is difficult to purchase new equipment, we are certainly grateful for their support.”
Hines VA Medical Hospital was awarded stimulus package funds to renovate part of the hospital. As they were preparing for renovation they discovered a lab with science equipment that no particular department could use or claim. So, one of the parents of a Proviso West student, who works at the VA, suggested they donate the equipment to PW.
“No one was using it [the equipment],” said VA Project Coordinator, Aaron Carlson. “It was great to be able to give it to one of our local schools and support the kids right here in our community.”
The equipment which includes chairs, scales, thermometers, glassware, metal cabinets, centrifuge, and filter paper, is now being utilized by the science department at west.
Thanks Hines VA! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
