Proviso West Students Recognized as Illinois State Scholars

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) recognized 19,345 high school students from 752 different schools from across the state as 2010 “Illinois State Scholars.” Five of those students attend Proviso West High School.

Proviso West students Ximena A. Bustios, Jesus Godinez, Jyoti Kanda, Akeila M. Sharp, and Candace C. Williams rank in the top ten percent of high school seniors in the state of Illinois. Their selection as Illinois State Scholars is based on their SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and their class rank.

“I am extremely proud of our students,” said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie-Collins-Hart. “Their consistent display of academic excellence is reflective of the type of success we want to see for all of our students. I know that these students will continue to excel and represent Proviso Township High Schools as future community leaders and academic scholars.”

The PTHS 209 Board of Education congratulated the students at January’s board meeting.

“We work really hard all year to keep our grades up,” said Jyoti Kanda of Melrose Park after being honored by the board. “It feels good to be recognized for our hard work.”

ISAC also saluted the students for their academic achievements.

“Excellent high school grades are tremendously important for laying the groundwork for future college success,” said ISAC Executive Director Andrew Davis. “Illinois State Scholars are the best and the brightest in our state’s high schools, and we salute them, their families and their teachers on this achievement.”

Congratulations students! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
