Proviso West wide receiver Kyle Prater will announce his college decision at a press conference scheduled at the school on Wednesday, September 2.
Prater, a 205-pound wide receiver and academic scholar, has received offers from every Big Ten school in the country including Penn State, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Arizona. But Prater made Panther History when he received his 17th offer from Stanford University. Never before has Stanford University offered a scholarship to a Proviso West student for athletics, although many students have received academic scholarships.
Prater manages a 3.2 G.P.A. and has been rated the number four high school player in The United States of America. He’s also been rated the country’s top receiver. Prater established school records last year with 60 catches for 984 yards and nine touchdowns. His 263 yard effort against 8A state finals runner-up Hinsdale Central, in October last year, ranks as the seventeenth best single game performance in Illinois high school history.
“I thank god for giving me the ability to do what I do,” said Prater in an interview earlier this year. “I just keep cherishing it, and keep putting in the work.”
Prater has excelled on the national level as well. He attended the U.S. Army All-American Combine in San Antonio and was named to the event’s First Team All-Combine Team. Kyle was also named the Most Outstanding Player at the Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 tournament in Florida. Prater has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American game on January 9, 2010, which will be televised by NBC.
PTHS 209 is excited to support Prater’s college choice, which will be announced on Sept. 2nd, 2009 at Proviso West High School. For more information please contact Mark Schneider at 708-202-6396.
