Proviso West Students Help Fight Hunger Around the World

Proviso West High School Key Club students are joining forces with the nation’s fastest growing hunger relief charity, “Feed My Starving Children” (FMSC).

On May 2nd students will travel to Aurora, Illinois to help members of the organization package rice, soy, meal, vitamins, vegetables and chicken stock for starving children around the world. The FMSC volunteer experience strengthens curriculum efforts focusing on citizenship, social service, asset building and other positive aspects of character development. Key Club sponsor, Mr. Jalove, volunteered at FMSC and then decided to get Proviso West students involved. He said he looks forward to Key Club members lending a hand and having a global impact.

“A month ago I went and helped out this organization with my family,” said Mr. Jalove. “I was amazed by the love of all of the individuals who gave their time for this cause. I volunteered my time for two hours and realized the number of children that I helped. These food packages go all around the world, and this organization allows children starting at the age of eight to help fill bags of food for the less fortunate. A bag of food is food for a week.”

Meals bagged by Proviso West students will be shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world. The Executive Director of FMSC, Mark Crea, says volunteers and donors like Proviso West students help make a difference and bring hope to food deserts across the globe.

"Donors to FMSC make an immediate difference in the world," said Crea. "Through long-term partnerships we have with orphanages, clinics, schools, and feeding programs in nearly 70 countries, our meals get to remote places that others can't reach."

FMSC distributes food to nearly 70 countries around the world through humanitarian agencies and missions. All meals—just 24-cents each—are funded by donors and packed by volunteers. To learn about how you can join the Proviso West Key club, or to support this volunteer activity, please contact Mr. Jalove at CJalove@pths209.org.
