Proviso West Key Club members rallied the entire school together in a food drive to donate over 500 pounds of food to the Ronald McDonald House, which houses families with critically ill children.
“The Key Club’s donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities will help the families of seriously ill children stay close to their children who are forced to endure days, weeks, and even months in the hospital,” said Mike Rauche, chairman of the donation program called “Food Checkout Day 2009.”
Ronald McDonald Houses around the world offer parents who have children receiving medical treatment a home so that they may stay closer to the hospital where their loved ones are being treated. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, a parent can better communicate with their child’s medical team, and keep up with complicated treatment plans when needed.
The Proviso West Key Club, which consists of twenty active members, worked together to bring in heavy (500 pounds of food) donations for the cause.
“We [The Key Club] always do our best in giving back to the community,” said Proviso West Senior Antoine Washington. “We try our best and we have fun doing it.”
“This was my first food drive and it felt really good to give,” said Proviso West Junior Delaney Fleuker.”
The results of the program included $4,289.00 in donations, 3,040 pounds of non-perishable food and pantry supplies for three Ronald McDonald Houses use, and a total of 51.5 pounds of pop tabs.
The Chairman thanked the Proviso West students for the generosity they displayed through their donations, which may help many families in need.
