The Proviso West Madrigal Singers: Talent with No Limits

Proviso West’s Madrigal Singers have been known to wow the crowds in musical displays of incredible talent. This year is no different.

The choral group recently received a Certificate of Recognition for "Outstanding Musicianship" during the VanderCook College of Music Choral Fest. They also received a Certificate of Recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives, via Representative Karen Yarbrough, for volunteering their talents at the 10th Annual Senior Valentine's Day Community Luncheon. In addition to high levels of recognition, the group outshined the competition at this year’s IHSA solo/ensemble music contest. The Proviso West Madrigal Singers earned a score of 39.5 out of a possible 40 and a Division 1 Rating of "Superior" which is the highest rating given for a superior vocal performance for their rendition of "My Luve's Like a Red."  The Proviso West Treble Ensemble earned a score of 39.9 out of 40, and a Division 1 Rating of "Superior," again, the highest rating given for a superior vocal performance for their rendition of "The Water is Wide." Students received Division 1 blue-ribboned GOLD medals.

"We [the PW Madrigal Singers] have been working long and hard to give our best performances this year and our hard work paid off,” said Proviso West junior and choral student Marqueta Kimber. “We earned it, and it feels really good.”

The students work long and hard to master their music and vocal ability under the leadership of Ms. Watson. She says the group works together much like a family, and she is extremely proud of their success.

“It's such a refreshing opportunity to work with such a talented and committed group of energetic students,” she said. “I am excited about our students’ musical successes and all of the opportunities I get to provide for them. I just want to encourage them to keep doing what they’re doing. I want to encourage them to continue to do bigger and greater things as we move toward closing out the school year.”

Congratulations, students! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising.
