NFL’s Ray McElroy and Members of the Chicago Bears Football Team Coach Youth at Proviso West

Proviso West High School is hosting its fourth annual Ray McElroy Pro Football Youth Camp directed by Proviso West Alum and NFL member Ray McElroy.

McElroy, who has played professional football for over 10 years, has dedicated his full-time post-career to the enrichment and development of youth by creating programs such as the Ray McElroy Pro Football Youth Camp “Where young men learn from the pros!” Every year he comes back to his community and Alma Mater, Proviso West.

“It's very humbling for me to be able to come back to my community and offer a camp like this," said McElroy. "My family and I have been blessed to attain some level of success in this game. Growing up here and going to school here [at Proviso West High School], I was never offered an opportunity like this. So I am happy to come back and bring the level of professionals into the camp to work with the kids in the community. It’s a gratifying experience and just very humbling.”

Over 65 young people from Proviso Township and across Illinois are participating in the camp and will have the opportunity to take their skills to the next level. Campers will learn from their head coach, McElroy, and special guests Matt Forte (Chicago Bears), Tommy Harris (Chicago Bears) Desmond Clark (Chicago Bears) and Fabien Bowens (Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears).

“It’s exciting to learn from real professionals in football,” said Proviso West Senior Quadrae Little. “I’m learning the game more, learning more about my position, and getting better. It’s exciting to learn from players who know what it takes to be good.”

During the three-day event, campers will receive professional football training, practice drills, and receive one-on-ones from the pros. They will also be taught proper nutrition, hygiene, and learn valuable lessons on responsibility, expectation, and commitment.

“The kids here are so excited,” said Beverly Lee, volunteer of three years and family member of McElroy. “It has a really positive effect on the youth and the community. It encourages the youth and shows them how they can give back to the community when they grow up.”

Campers range from 10-18 years of age. At the end of the camp all campers will receive individual photos with the Pros, autographed items, a backpack stuffed with authentic NFL products, an official camp T-shirt and a certificate of completion. The camp runs from June 24th -June 27th.
