On January 24th, 2009 the Proviso West Swim Team will host its 1st Annual Swim Invitational!

The swimming competition begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Proviso West Pool. Participating schools include: Deerfield High School, Morton High School, and Hinsdale South High School.

The Proviso West boys swim team has grown from 12 swimmers last year to 28 swimmers this year.  Proviso West Swim Coach Katie Maksimuk says this is an exciting time for the enthusiastic swimmers.

"This year's team has surpassed every expectation," said Maksimuk. "These guys have a tremendous amount of heart and spirit. Whether they are learning how to swim, practicing in the evening, competing, or bonding outside the pool, they have shown relentless dedication and determination. For many years, the boys' team was looked upon as the underdog. But now, they have commanded a respect that has caused other teams to be interested in competing. This invite is a true testament to what this school, and these boys in particular, can accomplish."

Maksimuk says she has enjoyed watching the swim team grow and improve over time, and this year the young swimmers at Proviso West are more competitive that ever.
