On November 23rd 2009 at 3:30 p.m. the Proviso West Swim Team will host tryouts for those interested in joining the team.

Last year, the Proviso West boys swim team grew from 12 swimmers to 28, and the team’s membership is continuing to expand.  The swim team is a fun group of determined and enthusiastic students who work together to improve their swimming skills and techniques at every level.

Proviso West swim coach, Katie Maksimuk, says even those who don’t know how to swim are welcome to join the team to learn.

"If they don’t know how to swim, we will teach them," said Maksimuk. “Our students have a tremendous amount of heart and spirit. Whether they are learning how to swim, practicing in the evening, competing, or bonding outside the pool, they have shown relentless dedication and determination.”

Last year, the swim team hosted their first annual swim invitational featuring local school districts. The Proviso West Swim Team earned 3rd place with 233 points, Deerfield was 1st with 400 points, Hinsdale South won 2nd with 294 points, and Morton came in 4th with 177 points.

Maksimuk says she has enjoyed watching the swim team grow and improve over time, and this year the young swimmers at Proviso West are more competitive than ever. To learn more about the PW team please contact Coach Maksimuk via email at kmaksimuk@pths209.org.
